Allegany County United Way announced that effective June 30 its executive director, Barbara Bates, will retire. Bates’ retirement will come after four years of service to the organization and 23 years in fundraising at Houghton College.

“It has been very rewarding working at United Way on behalf of the residents of Allegany County,” says Bates. “I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to work with so many dedicated professionals and volunteers over the past four years, and I look forward to continuing my support of this community and the United Way in the future. However, now is the time for me to start another phase in my life where I can spend more time with my family.”

“We want to thank Barbara for her service and wish her well. We also look forward to continuing United Way’s work of strengthening our community through collaboration and investment in critical community programs,” Randy Shayler, President of the United Way Board said.

The search for a new Executive Director will start immediately and information about the position can be found on the United Way web page www.acuw.com.  Resumes can be sent to the ACUW Search Committee, PO Box 15, Wellsville, NY 14895.

Established in 1953, Allegany County United Way is a not-for-profit organization that works to strengthen the community through supporting programs focusing on education, economic self-sufficiency, health, and critical needs.
