Homecare & Hospice Helping Those in Need
Bill and Maureen do not fear the illnesses that come with age. They appreciate the life they share in their cozy, modem apartment and Bill has enjoyed more than 20 years of retirement. So, when doctors told Bill that treatment for his prostate cancer could cause more damage than good. Bill and Maureen turned to hospice.
"The cancer had infiltrated Bill's lymphatic system and he was suffering from coronary artery disease," said Maureen, a career nurse. "The doctors thought he should go into a nursing home, but I felt he wasn't a candidate for that.
Bill and Maureen turned to Homecare & Hospice. While Bill was still in the hospital, Homecare & Hospice sent a social worker and a spiritual care coordinator.
"When we brought Bill home, the agency's nurse came with us, and we immediately began receiving visits from a home and health aide," said Maureen.
The home and health aide visits Bill and Maureen every day. She helps Bill shower and get dressed, and takes him outside for walks. She even helps Maureen, who has undergone three hip replacements and has suffered from cardiovascular disease. The aide does laundry and housework, and provides respite care so that Maureen can take a break from her responsibilities and leave the house for awhile.
"They do helpful things that take off some of the burden," said Maureen. "Hospice has relieved a lot of stress for me."
Today, Bill is enjoying his quality of life, and Homecare & Hospice will be there to offer skilled care, to talk, and to walk with Bill and Maureen along the way.
